A Bridge Through Time

We were delighted to be asked back by the Friends of Fitzwilliam Station to create a new art work for the footbridge at Fitzwilliam Station, having created the original artwork back in 2019.

Edgelands Arts held public consultation days and community workshops to create new artworks on the theme of A Bridge Through Time, which is an exploration of the history of the communities of Kinsley and Fitzwilliam and the importance of the local countryside and outdoor spaces.

6 designs were created to illustrate the followings themes -

Farming, Coal Mining, Sport, Leisure, Railways and Social Life. 

The borders of the artworks feature plants that can be found in the nearby Country Park throughout the year.

The schools and groups involved in the workshops included Fitzwilliam Primary School, Kings Meadow Academy, Kinsley Craft Workshop, Fitzwilliam Community Centre and Hemsworth Water Park. The new artwork was unveiled in October 2024 at an event led by the Friends of Fitzwilliam Station.

The work was funded by a Culture Grant by Wakefield Council as part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024.
